chicago lighting design 2

the mistake I made with this stage is the fact I got confused with the general cover as the centre of the stage is round I made the mistake of lighting that part from 4 points as I would theatre in round not traverse like its supposed to be...apparently it would need to be lit from 3 points in the centre ..lesson learnt.

chicago lighting design three

one this third attempt I managed to get the generally cover correct yet again I forgot to put aisles in which is important in the design concept I used this as my final paper design

chicago lighting plan attempt one

what is wrong with this plan I hear you ask, despite the presentation , I managed to mess up in creating a general cover due to the unusual shape of the stage I chose to use I also made the mistake of lighting the audience as I would a performer in the this design I put too many lights over then when I already had profiles pointing through the audience which would light the aisles (which I forgot to draw on incidentally) which would have been enough.

thrust

is a combination of traverse and theatre in the round half is lit from three points some from 4 points.

traverse

the staging is still lit by triangulation ie one backlight two front lights..but the difference with traverse to say end on theatre is in traverse each light within the triangle is set at a 120 degree angle to the next ..again the three points eliminate any shadows and when starting to plot a traverse piece 0 degrees is the backlight. The set is split in half  backlit from one end half from the other.

end on theatre

the prefomance area is lit from three points to eliminate shadows, this is made up of one backlight two front lights all of which need to be the same kind of light to get rid of differences that differ from brand to brand giving a more even spread of light

theatre in the round

the key things to remember while lighting a theatre in the round piece is firstly that there is no backlight this is because the staging is round therefore there is no back, instead each section of the staging is light from 4 points so that the performer is lit from all angles and shadows are eliminated.
